Restoration of damaged paintwork in the Picture Room

The moveable planes (like cupboard doors) in the Picture Room had considerable damage to the paint work through regular opening and closing in order to view the pictures hung behind the planes. To avoid having to close the Picture Room to the public for complete repainting, we were asked to touch in the damaged areas to match. Through much handling of the doors, areas had developed a patina and the work involved carefully matching the colour and the different shine and patina in each area. We organised our work to fit around the opening hours of the museum so that the room could remain open.
